China Flooding AUG 2020 - Hubei Province and Yangtze River
Heavy torrential rains continuing in the center and south of the
country may cause the Three Gorges Dam in China to collapse, which is located
in Hubei Province. Recently, the water level in one of its reservoirs has risen
almost 2 meters above the critical mark. According to one of the news portals,
the floods in the Yangtze area and its tributaries are already called the
largest in the last 80 years. The authorities were forced to evacuate about 40
thousand people from the region. Some Chinese hydrologists believe that the
dam, built between 1994-2006, will not be able to withstand severe flooding.
